(Redwood City, CA) Mark Church, Chief Elections Officer & Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder, announced today that the Signatures in Lieu of Filing Fee period begins on July 8, 2026 and concludes on July 29, 2026 at 5 p.m. for candidates running for Member, Board of Supervisors, District 5 for the November 3, 2026 Statewide General Election.
During the Signatures in Lieu of Filing Fee period, candidates may submit a petition containing the signatures of registered voters within their jurisdiction to reduce or cover their filing fee. Only signatures determined to be valid by the Registration & Elections Division will be credited toward reducing the filing fee. The number of signatures required to cover the filing fee varies by office.
Signatures gathered on the petition may also be credited toward the number of signatures required on the candidate's Nomination Papers during the candidate filing period.
Interested individuals must obtain their Signatures in Lieu of Filing Fee Petition from the Registration & Elections Division Office, located at 40 Tower Road, San Mateo, CA 94402.
